Updated: Feb 7

The Lady of Builders...
Mistress of the House of Books...
The Kemet Goddess/Netjert Seshat isn't as well known as some of the other Kemetic(Egyptian) goddesses, such as Auset (Isis) and Bastet, however, her powerful impact on the world is valued and indeed timeless.

Seshat (Seshet, Sefkhet-abwy, Sesat, Seshate) is an ancient goddess known by many names, but her most popular titles were "The Ancient One", "Patroness of Libraries" and "She of Seven Points". She is the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and writing. Her name means "she who is the scribe" Seshat is said to be the daughter of Djehnty (Thoth) and Ma'at.

Seshat has been credited as the original creator of writing, architecture, accounting, the measure of time, mathematics, surveying, astronomy, and astrology. She was a scribe and record keeper of the deeds of men.

Seshat was the keeper of the books and was assigned to assist the Kemetic (Egyptian) rulers with the "stretching of the cord" ceremonies that marked the foundation placement of major structures, such as temples. She ensured that each structure was in cosmic alignment. She was known as the lady of numbers and the lady of lists. She worked closely with rulers in this manner.

Seshat's principal sanctuary was in Heliopolis. Her priests and priestesses were in charge of the libraries where the strolls of the most important knowledge; arcana spells and gathered wisdom were preserved. She was the "Lady of Writings in the House of Life". She is also noted as the goddess of history and the consort, daughter, and/or sister of Djehnty (Thoth).

Seshat wears a crown with a seven-point star which some believe to be a papyrus leaf or a cannabis/hemp leaf or a rosette flower; surrounded by inverted horns or what could be a symbol of KA or a crescent moon. She is frequently seen wearing cheetah or leopard print and holding a stylus/pen.

Seshat was also very instrumental in assisting those traveling in the afterlife. She is tasked with the giving of documents to help souls travel through the afterlife and the building of homes for the deceased.

Many thanks to Netjert Seshat!!
